Trump announces framework agreement to end the war

US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that a framework agreement had been reached to end the war with Iran, marking a surprising diplomatic development after days of intense fighting.

The breakthrough follows a week of military confrontations involving US, Israeli and Iranian forces, raising hopes that the conflict could soon come to an end.

Trump said a final agreement could be signed in Europe as early as this weekend, with Vice President JD Vance expected to represent the United States at a high-level summit.

The announcement came just hours after Trump threatened major air strikes on Iran’s key energy facilities on Kharg Island.

He later withdrew the threat, saying Iranian leaders had agreed to the main conditions of a proposed settlement.

Under the framework, Iran would commit to permanently abandoning any effort to develop or obtain nuclear weapons.

The deal would also ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for global oil supplies.

While Trump welcomed the agreement as a major diplomatic achievement, Iranian officials said negotiations were still ongoing and that no final deal had been reached.

Israel, which joined the United States in launching military operations against Iran in February, said it is not currently part of the proposed agreement.

The conflict has unsettled global markets and contributed to rising inflation in the United States, which has reached its highest level in three years.
