President Donald Trump on Friday stated that Iran had received a U.S. proposal regarding its nuclear program and urged Tehran to act swiftly to resolve the long-standing dispute. However, Iranian officials denied receiving any such proposal.
In comments aboard Air Force One after leaving the United Arab Emirates, Trump told reporters, “They have a proposal. More importantly, they know they have to move quickly or something bad—something bad’s going to happen,” according to an audio recording of his remarks.
In contrast, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi took to X (formerly Twitter) to refute Trump’s claim, saying, “There is no scenario in which Iran abandons its hard-earned right to uranium enrichment for peaceful purposes.” Araqchi further stated, “Iran nonetheless remains determined and straightforward: Respect our rights and terminate your sanctions, and we have a deal.”
Araqchi emphasized that Iran “always welcomes dialogue based on mutual respect and always rejects any diktat.”
Earlier, an Iranian source close to the country’s negotiating team said that while Tehran had not yet received the proposal, it was reportedly in the hands of Oman, which would deliver it to Tehran soon.
