Trump says US could seize all of Iran’s oil

US President Donald Trump speaks to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, DC, on October 1, 2026

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington could take control of Iran’s oil resources, describing such a move as his preferred option amid the ongoing conflict with Tehran.

Trump claimed the United States had the capability to seize Iranian oil, although he provided no details on how Washington would carry out such an operation.

The American president also suggested that the United States could bring the war with Iran to a rapid conclusion but questioned whether an immediate end to the fighting would be the best course of action.

“We can end it very quickly. The question is: do we want to finish it, or do we let it gradually fade away?” Trump said.

His remarks highlighted Washington’s uncertainty over the next phase of the conflict, as tensions persist between the two countries despite months of military operations and diplomatic efforts.

Trump has previously raised the possibility of taking control of Iran’s oil resources, portraying the country’s energy reserves as a potential strategic asset for the United States.

However, the president did not specify whether his latest comments reflected a concrete military objective or an attempt to increase pressure on Tehran.
