Ukraine can prevail in war, says NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg addressed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine on Monday, expressing optimism about Ukraine’s prospects despite its military challenges.

Stoltenberg acknowledged Ukraine’s struggle against Russian advances and delays in receiving weapons deliveries from allies.

Ukrainian forces have been primarily defensive, while Russia’s troops have steadily advanced along the frontline.

Recent reports indicate that Russia has claimed the capture of a second village in eastern Ukraine, with a missile strike on the Black Sea port of Odesa resulting in casualties.

Moscow’s intensified efforts on the frontlines come amid delays in crucial US weapons reaching Ukraine’s exhausted forces.

Stoltenberg emphasized the importance of timely military aid, stating that months-long delays in US support have had serious consequences on the battlefield.

However, he assured that additional support is forthcoming, with allies exploring further measures to assist Ukraine.

Stoltenberg’s comments were made during a press conference held alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, underscoring NATO’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense.

The reliance on Western military aid has been crucial for Ukraine, as it seeks to counter Russia’s superior military capabilities.

Russia’s claims of capturing strategic villages near Avdiivka, including Semenivka and Novobakhmutivka, further underscore the escalating tensions in the region.

Despite the challenges faced by Ukrainian forces, Stoltenberg remains optimistic about Ukraine’s ability to prevail in the conflict.

The situation on the ground remains fluid, with ongoing fighting reported in areas near Semenivka and Ocheretyne, where Russian control has been asserted.
