US announces it will begin total blockade of Strait of Hormuz

US Central Command has announced that maritime forces will impose a blockade on traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports from April 13 at 10 a.m. ET under a presidential proclamation.

The directive applies impartially to vessels of all nationalities moving into or out of Iranian ports and coastal waters across Iran.

It covers key maritime zones including ports along the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, tightening oversight in a sensitive shipping corridor.

However, the measure will not restrict freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz for vessels transiting to and from non-Iranian destinations.

Additional operational details will be communicated to commercial mariners through an official notice issued ahead of the blockade’s activation.

Mariners are urged to closely monitor Notice to Mariners broadcasts and maintain contact with US naval forces on bridge-to-bridge channel 16.
