Ethiopia complains about World Cup qualifier match played in fog

The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) stated that adverse weather conditions, specifically dense fog, should have led to the abandonment of their World Cup qualifying match against Sierra Leone.

It has lodged a complaint with FIFA, the global governing body of football, citing multiple delays due to challenging weather conditions during the game, which took place in Morocco.

The halftime interval was prolonged, and during the second half, the referee halted the game on two occasions before concluding the match following an additional 15 minutes of added time.

”It should have been postponed,” an EFF statement said.

The match ended goalless.

Due to the absence of stadiums meeting international standards, Ethiopia is hosting its home games outside the country.

Fifa has not commented.
