South African captain Temba Bavuma announced a fast-bowling heavy attack for the first Test against Pakistan, starting Thursday at SuperSport Park.
This two-match series holds immense significance for South Africa, as a victory in either match will secure their place in the final of the World Test Championship.
“We back our seamers at Centurion,” Bavuma stated at the pre-match press conference.
Fast bowler Corbin Bosch, the son of the late Tertius Bosch – a legendary figure in South African cricket history who played in the country’s first post-isolation Test – will make his Test debut.
“He will be playing at the venue where his father made a name for himself in the provincial set-up,” Bavuma said. “He adds a crucial element of pace to our attack and is also a handy lower-order batsman.”
Bosch, who impressed on his ODI debut against Pakistan with speeds exceeding 140 km/h and a valuable contribution with the bat, is expected to play a key role in the series.
Bavuma acknowledged the importance of this series, stating, “We understand the significance of this series in our quest for the World Test Championship final.”
South Africa has climbed to the top of the World Test Championship table despite a challenging schedule and facing several setbacks, including the controversial decision to prioritize the T20 league, which significantly reduced their Test match appearances.
Pakistan, despite their recent ODI series victory, face a formidable challenge in South Africa.
