2nd group of South Sudanese nationals departs from Al-Damir

Al-Damir locality on Wednesday bade farewell to the second group of South Sudanese nationals returning voluntarily to the Bor area in Al-Zaidab.

Officials gathered at the Al-Damir crossing point for a modest but heartfelt ceremony marked by handshakes, prayers and quiet relief.

Executive Director Abdul-Basit Muhammad Al-Amin praised the collective effort behind the return programme, saying its success reflected months of coordination and trust.

He noted that families had shown patience and cooperation throughout the process, helping authorities carry out the transition smoothly and safely.

Deputy Executive Director Asim Saad Al-Din and members of the locality’s security committee joined local leaders to oversee the departure.

Chief Sultan Daniel Kom thanked the state government, Al-Damir locality and residents of both Al-Damir and Al-Zaidab for what he called consistent kindness and support.

He said communities had offered protection and dignity to South Sudanese families during years of displacement and uncertainty.

Returnees expressed joy at the journey ahead, filling the gathering with traditional dances that echoed their cultural pride and hopes for renewal.

Authorities confirmed that 86 families were included in this second batch, marking another step in the ongoing voluntary return initiative.

They added that additional groups will continue departing next Monday, including families still waiting in the Al-Zaidab area.
