US says Sudan crisis discussed with UAE, Saudi talks next

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Sudan crisis was among the issues discussed with Emirati officials during talks in Manama on Wednesday, adding that Washington would raise the matter again when Saudi officials join discussions on Thursday.

“Sudan will always come up in these discussions,” Rubio told reporters. “We will raise the Sudan discussion again tomorrow, because the Saudis will be there.”

Rubio said the United States wants to see a ceasefire and safe humanitarian access in Sudan, where the war has driven one of the world’s worst displacement and hunger crises.

The remarks come as regional and international efforts continue to seek a path toward ending the conflict, which erupted in April 2023 between General a-Burhan’s SAF and the Rapid Support Forces.
