Al-Dibab drone strike kills 80, medical source says

Drone strikes in Sudan’s West Kordofan have reportedly killed dozens, prompting calls for an independent investigation

Dozens of people, including civilians and children, were allegedly killed in Sudanese army drone strikes on a market in Al-Mujlad and the Al-Dibab area of West Kordofan, the Emergency Lawyers group said on Monday.

Others were wounded in the attacks, according to the group’s statement, reported by Al-Rakoba. The report did not provide a precise casualty count or specify when the strikes occurred.

The group condemned attacks on populated areas, saying they endangered civilians and violated international humanitarian law requiring parties to a conflict to distinguish between civilians and combatants and protect civilian infrastructure.

It called for an immediate halt to attacks on residential and other populated areas, compliance with international humanitarian law, and independent, transparent investigations to hold those responsible accountable.

The casualty figures and attribution of the strikes could not be independently verified. The report did not include a response from the Sudanese army.
