Arman: Islamist Movement and NCP block Sudan peace

Yasser Arman, a senior figure in the “Sumood” Alliance, says the recent postponement of the Sudan Quartet meeting could be turned into an opportunity to build a stronger, more effective political process aimed at stopping the war.

Arman argued that the delay allows mediators to design a credible peace process that applies greater pressure on Sudan’s warring factions and restricts their ability to prolong the conflict.

He stressed the need for Sudanese citizens to have confidence in the peace and political track so they can align with these efforts against those driving the war.

“The Quartet knows that the dissolved National Congress Party and the Islamist movement are the largest obstacles to any solution or stability, both inside Sudan and beyond, and that they are linked to issues of terrorism,” Arman said.
