Armed men stormed the village of Tajuj al-Hamdab in Sudan’s Kassala state, arresting and abducting several residents, local sources said on Monday.
Witnesses said the incident began as a personal dispute between two villagers before one returned with armed men wearing General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army uniforms, escalating tensions.
Residents said the group detained two people and transferred them to the West Gash police station without legal authority, while several young villagers were later abducted and taken to an unknown location.
Sources linked the violence to a worsening dispute over an agricultural project and land ownership.
Community leaders called on authorities to intervene urgently, secure the release of abductees and restore order, warning that continued inaction could trigger wider unrest.
