Sudan’s junta ruler, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met with lawyer Nabil Adib to discuss possible legal frameworks for pardoning key leaders of the Forces of Freedom and Change and the Sumud alliance.
At the same time, reports say Burhan is holding political and societal consultations to launch a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue within two months.
The consultations include political groups, Sufi representatives, local administrators and civil society members, to build trust ahead of the dialogue.
Supporters view the efforts as a possible step toward easing Sudan’s political divisions, provided any amnesty follows legal procedures.
Critics, however, warn against excluding factions or repeating past political dynamics and call for a broader, community-based approach to achieve lasting stability.
