General Abdel Fattah al Burhan has unveiled a new proposal that cuts against Quartet-backed peace efforts.
In an article for Almanac Diplomatique, Burhan wrote that a ceasefire must be substantive, not symbolic, and bound to strict conditions addressing the crisis’s roots.
He warned that any agreement lacking a Rapid Support Forces withdrawal and the removal of heavy weapons would only freeze the war without ending it.
Burhan said real peace requires a comprehensive process restoring full control to state institutions and rebuilding Sudan’s shattered political order.
His message framed peace as a return to single authority, diverging from Quartet efforts seeking an immediate negotiated truce.
