Burhan signals readiness for Sudan talks after Trump’s statements

Port Sudan junta general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, expressed willingness to cooperate with the United States and Saudi Arabia.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Burhan thanked Washington and Riyadh for “continued efforts to stop Sudanese bloodshed” across the nation.

Burhan emphasised its “readiness to seriously engage” with international partners to achieve the peace the Sudanese people have long hoped for.

The announcement followed US President Donald Trump’s pledge to work with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt to halt conflict.

Trump’s initiative aims to mediate the deadly clashes between Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, which have devastated communities nationwide.

Observers see the cooperation as a critical step toward stabilising a country caught in a violent power struggle since April.

The Sudanese public has endured escalating violence, with tens of thousands displaced and international calls for urgent intervention growing louder.

Regional powers are now being urged to coordinate diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to prevent further bloodshed and restore fragile stability.

Burhan’s statement signals an opening for dialogue, though sceptics question whether external influence can override entrenched rivalries within Sudan.
