Burhan’s spy service detains over 20 activists in Blue Nile state

SAF junta leader al-Burhan’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) has carried out a series of summonses and arrests targeting more than 20 political and civil activists in the city of Al-Damazin, Blue Nile State, between July 20 and August 6, according to the Sudanese human rights group HUDO.

The detentions came after the individuals signed the “National Forces Alliance” statement issued on July 4.

On July 20, GIS officers summoned and detained several figures, including Dr. Ibrahim Amer, Bakri Abdel Basit, Saleh Joni, and a man identified as Youssef, along with other activists. They were questioned over their political positions before being released the same day.

Two days later, on July 22, health ministry employee Ikhlas Adam Hassan and teacher Noha Suleiman Azroun were summoned for questioning, held for nine hours, and released in the evening.

On August 6, the GIS summoned 13 more activists, including lawyers and engineers, and transferred them to Al-Damazin Central Police Station under the Emergency Law, which allows detention for up to three months without formal charges.
