Civil committee plans voluntary return of Sudanese from Libya

A new agreement will return Sudanese nationals who fled conflict from Libya to Sudan through Egypt’s Salloum border crossing.

Mohamed Wadah, head of the Hope Committee for Voluntary Return, said returnees will transit directly through the border crossing without entering Egyptian cities.

The independent civil committee expects to begin the repatriation process in the coming days to help displaced Sudanese families return home.

Wadah rejected claims that the operation has political motives, dismissing rumours that returnees would be forcibly recruited.

He said the initiative is funded entirely through public donations deposited into the Sudanese Embassy’s account in Cairo.

The committee says it has already helped 35,000 Sudanese citizens return from Egypt, including patients and former detainees.

The committee is also coordinating with the Zakat Bureau to secure the release of more Sudanese nationals jailed in Egypt over unpaid debts.
