The Secretary-General of the United Civil Forces (UCF), Ibrahim Zariba, has accused SAF leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, of orchestrating what he described as “mass annihilation” targeting social groups across the country. Zariba also claimed Al-Burhan is using food as a tool of control and repression in war-affected areas.
In an interview with Erem News, Zariba alleged that Al-Burhan is intensifying aerial strikes and denying basic rights to civilians in opposition-held territories. He further accused the SAF leader of leveraging alliances with regional powers to destabilize Sudan amid its ongoing conflict.
Zariba warned that Al-Burhan is waging war to undermine efforts to form a new transitional government. The UCF official argued that a civilian-led government, which aims to restore services and stability in conflict zones, threatens Al-Burhan’s grip on power.
Sudanese political forces are pushing ahead with plans to establish a transitional administration, Zariba said, emphasizing the need for broad-based consultations and technical preparation to ensure inclusivity and functionality. He stressed that consensus among political factions and civil society groups is critical for success.
The war in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 between SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has devastated much of the country, collapsing services and worsening humanitarian crises. Zariba highlighted the urgent need for a functioning government to address the disruption of education, healthcare, and basic infrastructure, which has left millions of Sudanese at risk.
He also decried the obstacles to humanitarian aid delivery, citing restrictions imposed by the SAF-controlled administration in Port Sudan and a near-total collapse of essential services like water, healthcare, and fuel supplies.
Zariba underscored the economic toll, with Sudanese producers struggling to export goods and access foreign currency. The lack of civil identification services and disrupted financial systems further exacerbate the country’s challenges.
Despite the obstacles, Zariba affirmed the commitment of Sudanese political and civil society groups to establishing a transitional government to alleviate the suffering of citizens and restore peace.
