In a striking disclosure, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, revealed that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) provided sustained financial and military backing to Minni Arko Minawi’s Sudan Liberation Movement following the Juba Peace Agreement. Dagalo stated that Minawi’s troops were incorporated into the RSF system with monthly allowances and financial transfers reaching 120 million Sudanese pounds, adding this fulfilled part of the peace accord’s implementation.
He stressed that the Juba Peace Agreement was not born of chance but was driven by a strong initiative from the United Arab Emirates. He credited Abu Dhabi for what he described as a “pivotal role” in advancing peace, asserting, “After God, all credit goes to the UAE,” despite what he called current smear campaigns against it.
Turning to internal matters, Dagalo addressed members of the Zaghawa tribe, cautioning them against being lured into divisions or internal conflicts that could unravel Darfur’s fragile social fabric. He insisted he harbours no hostility toward the Zaghawa and that his relationship with the region’s communities must remain detached from political or military escalation.
Dagalo further stated that if RSF forces were ever to seize control of El Fasher, they would withdraw immediately, ensuring the city’s return to its residents without interference. “We have nothing to do with it and have no interest in it,” he declared.
His remarks surface at a volatile moment in Darfur, where rising hostilities and competing claims of authority threaten to upend the fragile hopes for peace.
