Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo said he accepted the chairmanship of the Presidential Council at the request of the Founding Alliance leadership, describing the move as a moral duty to the nation rather than a pursuit of authority.
Sources close to Dagalo said he framed the step as a tribute to “the martyrs,” aimed at protecting the rights of their families and restoring dignity to the wounded and the oppressed. “I did not seek power,” he was quoted as saying, adding that the imperatives of the national cause compelled him to take on the role.
Dagalo said the next phase will focus on rebuilding Sudan and pledged to press ahead “with a determination befitting the sacrifices of the martyrs who gave their lives for the nation.”
