A funeral procession was held on Friday in Al-Tina, a Chadian border town, for Dar Qala leader Shartai Adam Sabi Al-Tijani Al-Tayeb.
His body was returned months after he was kidnapped and killed by unknown gunmen in the volatile Sudan–Chad border region.
The Shartai was abducted last August by an armed tribal group travelling in two vehicles, according to local sources.
His captors accused him of providing drone coordinates linked to an attack on a community meeting in Al-Tina.
The Dar Qala administration described the killing as treacherous, saying the body was returned after sustained pressure and negotiations.
Mayor Adam Marmar Atiya officially announced the death as mourners gathered for prayers and a funeral procession.
Local leader Haroun Khater said the handover followed more than a month of talks through Chadian local administrations.
The kidnapping had already sparked deadly clashes between Zaghawa clans last October, leaving 19 people dead and deepening tribal tensions.
