Darfur pledges to facilitate humanitarian operations after UN visit

Darfur’s regional governor, Dr. El-Hadi Idris, has welcomed the visit of Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, to the war-torn region, describing it as a sign of growing international concern for civilians caught up in the conflict.

In a statement, Idris expressed his appreciation for the support of the international community and its efforts to address the plight of Sudanese civilians, stressing that his administration is committed to facilitating the work of humanitarian organizations and ensuring that aid reaches all those affected.

He said Fletcher’s visit reflects “the international community’s concern for the suffering of civilians” and helps to strengthen joint efforts aimed at providing vital assistance to people in need.

Idris reaffirmed that the Darfur regional government will provide all necessary guarantees to enable international organizations and humanitarian agencies to carry out their work “effectively and transparently,” including the safe and unhindered delivery of aid.

He underscored the need for relief to reach all Sudanese affected by the war “without exception,” calling for intensified international and regional efforts to ensure smoother aid flows and better coordination among all relevant actors.

The governor reiterated the readiness of the Darfur regional authorities to fully cooperate with the United Nations and humanitarian partners to alleviate civilian suffering and work towards restoring security and stability across the region.
