South Darfur’s Ministry of Health confirmed six new cases of dengue fever in Nyala on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recorded infections to 335.
The new cases were identified in the Sakli neighbourhood of Nyala South locality, after 10 suspected infections were reviewed during the latest disease surveillance period, according to an official ministry report.
Health authorities said the distribution of cases now stands at 235 infections in Nyala North locality, 98 cases within Nyala municipality, and one case each in Al Malam and Adal Fursan localities.
The Health Emergency and Epidemic Control Department stated that investigation and active case finding are ongoing, led by emergency response teams with logistical and technical support from the International Committee of the Red Cross. Vector control measures are being carried out with support from the humanitarian organisation Alight.
Dengue fever, which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, was first reported in Nyala at the end of October. Since then, the state Ministry of Health has launched public awareness campaigns in neighbourhoods most affected by the outbreak, urging residents to take preventive measures to reduce mosquito breeding and limit transmission.
