Egypt and Saudi Arabia discuss Sudan’s conflict with US

Egypt and Saudi Arabia held separate discussions with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday, with both conversations centring on the worsening conflict in Sudan and efforts to halt the country’s slide into deeper turmoil.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty underscored Cairo’s commitment to supporting Sudan’s unity and state institutions as the country endures relentless fighting and humanitarian collapse.

He briefed Rubio on his 11 November visit to Khartoum, describing it as a crucial step to assess the situation on the ground and reinforce Egypt’s engagement with Sudanese actors.

Abdelatty stressed the need for coordinated international action to prevent further fragmentation and warned that continued instability threatens to spill across regional borders.

US Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said both sides discussed ongoing efforts to secure a humanitarian ceasefire and revive diplomatic channels aimed at easing the conflict.

In a separate call, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan also discussed Sudan with Rubio, highlighting Riyadh’s concern over the escalating violence and its support for renewed mediation.

The statements said Washington, Cairo and Riyadh remain aligned on the urgency of de-escalation, humanitarian access and a political path capable of steering Sudan away from collapse.
