Egyptian Navy’s aid ship Abu Simbel 2 docked at Port Sudan, delivering over 200 tons of essential relief supplies on Sunday.
This aid, provided by the Egyptian Armed Forces, Ministry of Social Solidarity, Ministry of Health and Population, and Egyptian Red Crescent, includes food, medical supplies, and medicines.
The relief is aimed at assisting the most affected regions in Sudan, particularly the Northern State, which has been devastated by recent flooding.
This humanitarian effort follows directives from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to supporting Sudan.
The Egyptian Armed Forces confirmed that the mission is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to aid Sudanese people affected by natural disasters and ongoing civil conflict.
Sudan has been embroiled in conflict since April 15, 2023, with over 18,800 people killed and more than 33,000 wounded due to a power struggle between Al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces.
The Northern State, already struggling from the conflict, was severely impacted by recent floods, worsening an already dire situation.
The aid from Abu Simbel 2 aims to alleviate hardships faced by communities in the flood-hit region.
In addition to immediate relief, Sudan is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis with 7.9 million internally displaced persons and 2.3 million refugees.
Egypt has actively mediated the conflict and provided refuge for over 500,000 displaced Sudanese nationals since the conflict began.
The arrival of Abu Simbel 2 underscores Egypt’s ongoing solidarity and humanitarian outreach amid Sudan’s continuous civil unrest.
