The European Union condemned a deadly attack on a UN peacekeeping headquarters in South Kordofan state, Sudan, on Monday. The assault, which caused multiple deaths and injuries, struck at the heart of international efforts to maintain stability in tense regions.
Ambassador Wolfram Vetter, head of the EU mission to Sudan, described the attack as a clear violation of international law. He warned that the strike on the UN mission in the disputed Abyei region risks dragging the area into further instability.
Vetter called for an independent international investigation to hold those responsible for the attacks accountable for their crimes. The EU stressed the importance of protecting UN missions and personnel, insisting that perpetrators must not evade punishment.
International observers said that such assaults threaten both humanitarian operations and the fragile peace that remains in South Kordofan. The European Union urged swift global action, emphasizing that safeguarding UN missions is crucial to sustaining regional security.
