Egyptian researcher Amani al-Tawil, an expert on Sudanese affairs, said the US plan to end Sudan’s war faces major hurdles.
She explained the initiative’s success depends on warring factions agreeing to a humanitarian mechanism ensuring a true ceasefire and clearing fighters from residential zones.
Al-Tawil added that any political settlement also requires severing connections between civilian authorities and certain military formations, a step she deemed essential.
She warned that sharp political polarization remains the largest obstacle to implementing the American initiative and achieving lasting stability in Sudan.
According to Al-Tawil, tackling these challenges is a prerequisite for establishing an environment conducive to meaningful and durable peace agreements.
