Violent clashes between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have displaced 700 households from Bara in North Kordofan.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed the mass displacement on Thursday, citing escalating insecurity in the region.
Bara, a strategic town linking southern Kordofan and Darfur to the capital Khartoum, has become a focal point of fierce combat.
“The situation remains tense and highly fluid,” IOM said, underscoring the ongoing danger facing civilians on the ground.
The war between Burhan’s army and RSF, which erupted in April 2023, continues to devastate the country with no end in sight.
United Nations figures put the death toll above 20,000, with over 14 million people displaced from their homes across Sudan.
However, recent studies from American universities suggest the true number of fatalities may be as high as 130,000.
The fighting has transformed cities into battlegrounds, dismantled state infrastructure, and deepened the humanitarian crisis.
Bara’s fall or retention could shift the balance in the conflict, given its key location on a vital national supply route.
Sudan’s future remains uncertain as both sides dig in, while millions of civilians endure the cost of a prolonged and brutal war.
