First aid convoy reaches famine-stricken Sudan camp after months

A famine-hit camp in Sudan, home to 500,000 displaced people, received its first aid convoy in months as the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) delivered supplies to Zamzam on Friday.

Food aid had been delayed due to heavy fighting in Darfur’s el-Fasher and impassable rainy-season roads. The ongoing conflict between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has displaced millions, sparking the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

The convoy, part of WFP’s efforts to reach isolated areas, traveled from Chad through a corridor reopened in August. More aid is en route, but safe passage remains uncertain amid accusations of SAF aid blockades.
