Heavy rains and floods swept through Sudan’s Abu Karshola area in South Kordofan state, displacing 138 families, the International Organization for Migration said.
The downpours completely destroyed 138 homes and partially damaged 133 others, according to initial estimates from field teams.
Verification operations are continuing as aid workers assess the full scope of the damage across the region.
Ten villages were affected, including Fajuj, Al-Bayda, Hajar Snina and Al-Rusaris, forcing families into open-air temporary shelters.
The destruction follows a wider wave of floods across Kordofan this August, compounding an already dire humanitarian crisis.
On August 21 alone, floods displaced 143 families in Abu Karshola and Al-Tadamun, destroying scores of houses.
Officials warn the rains, expected to persist into October, threaten a population already battered by war and displacement.
Needs for shelter, food and water are mounting as more families seek refuge under open skies.
