A coalition of 15 nonprofits and humanitarian organizations will announce new investments to combat the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
This initiative kicked off the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) annual meeting on Monday.
The Coalition for Mutual Aid in Sudan, which includes prominent organizations like The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, plans to donate at least $2 million.
They aim to raise an additional $4.5 million for mutual aid groups in Sudan within the next two years.
This announcement is one of over 100 commitments expected during the two-day meeting of political and philanthropic leaders.
The theme for this year’s meeting is “What’s Working,” as emphasized by former President Bill Clinton and his family.
First Lady Jill Biden will announce a new women’s health initiative at the meeting.
She highlighted the need for increased funding and research for women’s health issues.
Cindy McCain, World Food Program director, noted that 25 million people in Sudan face acute hunger.
The ongoing conflict has displaced over 12 million people, creating a significant humanitarian crisis.
Greg Milne, CGI CEO, stressed the importance of diverse partnerships in tackling urgent global challenges.
Prominent leaders, including international politicians and business executives, will also address the conference.
