Unidentified gunmen raided a pastoral area east of Dilling city in South Kordofan state, stealing 50 cattle.
The attackers also abducted eight young herders, including five children and three girls, during the swift assault near Markazou Gardens.
The gunmen then forced the captives and drove the stolen cattle eastward toward the remote village of Khamis.
Local residents, joined by armed forces, pursued the attackers across the area but lost their trail near Hajar Arka.
The fate of the eight abducted herders remains unknown.
