Tamara Abu Ramadan, an international justice adviser at Human Rights Watch, has called on General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army to quickly hand over the remaining suspects wanted by the International Criminal Court.
She said former president Omar al Bashir is the most high-profile of those sought, adding that his transfer would be a crucial step towards delivering long-overdue justice.
Writing on the issue, Abu Ramadan urged governments to support the court’s work in Sudan and expand its jurisdiction across the country, saying this is essential to protect victims and end impunity.
She also advocated exploring the creation of a special international court for Sudan and pursuing cases abroad under universal jurisdiction to reinforce accountability.
