Iran and Sudan discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations

Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereign Council and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi deliberated on ways to bolster bilateral relations after the reestablishment of diplomatic ties in October 2022.

The talks took place on Saturday during the extraordinary joint Arab and Islamic summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The summit was convened to address the ongoing conflict between the Israeli army and Hamas.

A statement released by the Sudanese Sovereign Council highlighted that the meeting centered on “strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and advancing cooperation in all areas.”

As per the statement, President Raisi affirmed Iran’s dedication to bolstering relations between Sudan and Iran.

Raisi also welcomed the renewed ties between the two nations, underscoring Sudan’s crucial role in the region.

Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that President Raisi expressed Iran’s readiness to facilitate mutual visits by diplomatic delegations and strengthen relations across various sectors with Sudan.

Sudan cut diplomatic ties with Iran in January 2016 as a gesture of solidarity with Saudi Arabia after an attack on the Saudi embassy in Tehran.
