Islamic Movement embassy staff bar Samoud passport renewals

Sudan’s Democratic Civilian Coalition of Revolutionary Forces, known as “Samoud,” accused affiliates of the SAF-aligned Islamic Movement posted at several Sudanese embassies of arbitrarily denying its members the right to renew passports or complete official paperwork, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

In the 23 July communiqué, the coalition said that embassy staff had even prevented family members unaffiliated with public life from securing travel documents. It also alleged that some missions were applying regional or ethnic discrimination when processing applications.

“These abusive decisions result from the Islamist movement’s unlawful takeover of Sudanese diplomatic missions, which it is using to settle political scores against the civilian forces that helped overturn its dark agenda in December’s revolution,” the statement read.

The coalition warned that it would resist what it described as “criminal behaviour” and pledged to continue pursuing all legitimate channels to halt the war, restore peace, alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people, and complete the goals of the December uprising.

The “Samoud” bloc comprises political parties, professional unions, civil‑society groups and resistance committees that played pivotal roles in the 2023–24 protests that led to the ouster of former military rulers.
