JEM: Peace and Unity Government marks a new beginning for Sudan

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) has welcomed the announcement of the Peace and Unity Government formed by the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis), calling it the beginning of a new era for Sudan focused on ending war and addressing the roots of the country’s crisis.

In a statement issued Sunday, JEM described the new government as a “nascence of a new Sudan” that aims to preserve national unity, confront the political and humanitarian crises triggered by years of war, ensure fair resource allocation, and establish lasting peace.

The movement congratulated the Sudanese people, including displaced communities, refugees and migrants forced from their homes by conflict, as well as the newly appointed Presidential Council, its deputy and Prime Minister. JEM said these appointments represent the confidence of the Sudanese people in the leadership of the Second Republic, built on the ruins of a failed First Republic.

As a core member of Tasis and a partner in the Peace and Unity Government, JEM said its vision is a secular, democratic state built on justice, equality, citizenship, and human dignity. The group pledged to work alongside all civilian and political forces to stop the war, end displacement, tackle the humanitarian crisis, rebuild state institutions, and reform the economy, education and the armed forces. It also called for foreign relations based on mutual respect and shared interests.

According to the statement, the formation of the new government signals “the end of an era of injustice, tyranny and division” and the beginning of national reconciliation and recovery. JEM said it sees the initiative as a path toward healing past wounds, rebuilding communities, and ensuring the return of all displaced Sudanese to their homes.

The group reaffirmed its full backing for the program of the Peace and Unity Government and vowed to work collectively to build “a new Sudan” under the framework of the Sudan Founding Charter.
