Senior Sudanese Armed Forces commander Shams al-Din Kabashi has travelled to Cairo on an undisclosed visit as military operations intensify across the Kordofan region, according to military sources.
The sources told the Edraak news platform that Kabashi, a member of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council, departed Khartoum for the Egyptian capital amid ongoing political and military developments surrounding the Sudanese conflict.
Details of the visit’s agenda have not been made public. The sources also declined to confirm whether Kabashi was expected to meet US officials during his stay in Cairo.
However, they suggested that the trip may be linked to earlier contacts between Kabashi and US senior adviser for Africa Massad Boulos.
According to the report, some US officials view Kabashi as one of the senior SAF commanders considered relatively willing to discuss proposals related to a ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to conflict-affected areas.
The reported visit comes as fighting continues to escalate across Kordofan, where SAF and the Rapid Support Forces are competing for control of strategically important towns, supply routes and military positions.
Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned that an expansion of the fighting could deepen displacement, restrict access to food and medical supplies, and further increase civilian suffering across the region.
Neither Kabashi’s office nor Egyptian authorities had publicly confirmed the visit or released details about any scheduled meetings at the time of publication.
