Presidential Council member and Sudan Liberation Forces Alliance (SLFA) leader El-Tahir Abu Bakr Hajar on Thursday issued an urgent call for the immediate evacuation of El-Fasher, warning that the city’s rapidly deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions now endanger every civilian still inside.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Hajar said SLFA units “are already positioned on every approach to El-Fasher” and stand ready to open and protect humanitarian corridors for anyone seeking to leave. Evacuees, he added, would be escorted until they reach safety, whether elsewhere in North Darfur or in neighbouring states.
“Our foremost duty at this critical moment is to safeguard civilian lives and dignity and to stop any faction from using innocent people as human shields,” he wrote, accusing “Islamist forces and allied armed movements” of waging a war that “extracts its price from innocents.”
Hajar stressed that remaining in the city now poses an unacceptable risk, urging residents of El-Fasher and surrounding villages to depart immediately: “Your safety, your dignity, and your property are our top priorities. Move quickly—allow us to protect you.”
The SLFA commander’s plea comes amid intense fighting that has already disrupted aid deliveries and sent thousands fleeing other parts of Darfur in recent weeks.
