Civilians trapped within Sudan’s El-Fasher are facing “catastrophic” circumstances, advocacy groups urgently reported on Sunday.
Their situation is rapidly deteriorating under a relentless, months-long fighting between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and Rapid Support forces.
The Darfur General Coordination of Camps for the Displaced and Refugees stated that residents endure constant artillery shelling and terrifying aerial bombardments.
They also face the daily horrors of hunger, disease, and severe drought.
Life in El-Fasher has ground to a halt, with empty markets and a complete cessation of crucial humanitarian aid deliveries.
Basic commodity prices have skyrocketed, while a severe cash shortage grips the city.
The advocacy group warned of an “unprecedented and catastrophic deterioration” of already dire conditions in and around El-Fasher.
The conflict has already triggered what the UN describes as the world’s most severe hunger and displacement crisis.
Millions are uprooted, tens of thousands are dead, and famine has been declared in parts of the ravaged nation.
