Massive fire hits eastern Jabalain market in White Nile State

A large fire swept through the eastern market in the city of Jabalain in southern White Nile State, causing major property damage but no casualties, according to local reports. Civil defence teams from Bashair Petroleum managed to bring the blaze under control after it broke out on Saturday evening, destroying more than seventeen shops.

Initial findings

Local sources said early information indicates the fire began in a bakery due to an electrical short circuit, before quickly spreading to nearby shops. The blaze caused significant material losses, while the rapid response of firefighting teams prevented injuries among residents and workers despite the size and speed of the fire.

On Sunday morning, Jabalain locality executive director Yahya Al-Fadil Ibrahim visited the scene to assess the damage. He met with affected shop owners and received detailed accounts of the losses and the suspected cause of the incident. He stated that local authorities will conduct a full evaluation to ensure compensation for those impacted and to take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Official actions

The executive director instructed the relevant departments in the Jabalain administrative unit to prepare a comprehensive report on the incident and the total damage, in coordination with the civil defence police. He also praised the efforts of Bashair Petroleum’s civil defence unit, which helped contain the fire and prevented it from spreading further inside the market. He stressed that the quick response played a decisive role in reducing the overall losses.
