MSF ends support at Khartoum primary health center

Doctors Without Borders has ended support at the “Martyr Wadallah” Primary Health Care Center in Jabal Awliya, Khartoum.

The organization assisted the center for nearly three years, completing rehabilitation and handing management to the Ministry of Health.

Marta Cazorla, the emergency coordinator in Sudan, described the handover as a key sign of the intervention’s success.

Support included improving water and power systems, structural upgrades, and enhancing patient flow and drug storage.

Since June 2023, medical teams conducted about 199,000 consultations, administered over 65,000 vaccines, and treated more than 19,000 malaria cases.

The center now operates fully under Ministry supervision, promoting sustainable, locally managed healthcare services in Jabal Awliya.

It is the first of several primary health centers the organization plans to support, including Tayba Al-Kababish since January.

The area is seeing more returnees as Khartoum’s conflict eases, but residents still face shortages of basic services and damaged infrastructure.
