Museveni meets Sudan Peace Government in Entebbe

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Friday received a high-level delegation from Sudan’s Peace Government at the State House in Entebbe, as part of regional efforts to help bring an end to the conflict in Sudan.

The delegation was led by Presidential Council Chair and commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. According to a statement from the Presidential Council, Dagalo opened the meeting by congratulating Museveni on his re-election and renewed public mandate, before the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation in support of regional stability.

Discussions included a comprehensive review of the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the war, with a particular focus on civilian protection and access to aid. The Sudanese delegation briefed the Ugandan president on the latest security and political developments, outlined the Peace Government’s vision for halting hostilities and reaching a comprehensive settlement, and detailed efforts aimed at addressing the country’s long-standing structural crises.

Ugandan understanding and support

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Foreign Minister Ammar Omom said the visit came at the invitation of President Museveni. He added that the delegation sensed “strong understanding and sincere intentions” from the Ugandan leadership to support efforts to stop the war and advance a just and sustainable peace that tackles Sudan’s root causes.

Regional context

The visit underscores President Museveni’s prominent role in African mediation and reflects the depth of ties between Kampala and the Sudanese Peace Government. Uganda was the first stop on Dagalo’s African tour since the outbreak of the conflict.

The delegation accompanying Dagalo included Vice-Chair Abdelaziz Adam al-Hilu; Presidential Council members and regional governors al-Taher Hajar, Dr al-Hadi Idris, Dr Mabrouk Mubarak Salim, and Khaldi Fathi; Prime Minister Mohamed Hassan al-Ta’ayshi; several cabinet ministers; and Sultan Ahmed Dinar, a senior figure in the Sudan Foundational Alliance.
