Muslim Brotherhood storms Butana, displaces Sudanese residents

The Sudanese Founding Alliance, Tasis, said dozens of families have been forcibly displaced after an armed force it linked to the Muslim Brotherhood entered the Ku forest area in Al-Butana locality.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the alliance said that they arrived in military vehicles and stormed the area on the morning of Eid al-Adha.

It described the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation and accused affiliated fighters of carrying out attacks.

The statement said around 150 families from the Abu Khreis and Ambror clans, part of the wider Rifa’a tribe, live in the area.

It added that dozens of households were forced to flee their homes, leaving behind belongings and without access to shelter or basic support.

Displaced residents are now facing difficult humanitarian conditions that, the alliance warned, put the safety of children, women and the elderly at risk.

The group also said the area has experienced repeated attacks and ongoing harassment in recent years by elements it links to the Muslim Brotherhood.

It further underlined that authorities have failed to protect local communities despite repeated complaints from residents.

According to the statement, the notorious group has also been accused of targeting specific communities, burning villages, destroying homes and forcing people off their land.

Across the plains of Al-Butana, the reported displacement has left families uprooted and uncertain about their future.

The alliance called on human rights organisations monitoring Sudan to investigate the allegations and their consequences.
