Nyala traders report heavy losses after fuel market destroyed in SAF airstrike

Traders in the fuel market of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, have reported massive financial losses after a fire completely destroyed the market following an airstrike, according to media.

Traders said on Tuesday that the blaze broke out late last week after a drone, believed to belong to SAF, carried out an attack on the fuel market on Thursday, causing it to burn down entirely.

Mohamed Zein al Abideen, a fuel trader, said preliminary estimates indicate cash losses exceeding four trillion Sudanese pounds, in addition to the loss of around 1,500 barrels of fuel and 2,000 empty barrels.

He added that the price of an empty barrel in the market ranges between 200,000 and 250,000 Sudanese pounds.

Mohamed confirmed that no workers in the market were injured as a result of the strike.

Other affected traders said the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, pledged to compensate them once the damage assessment is completed. It remains unclear whether the compensation would be full or partial, according to media.

They also noted that SAF drones had previously targeted a fuel market in the town of Adikongu near the Sudan Chadian border, an attack that resulted in civilian casualties.
