More than 62,000 people have fled El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported Friday. According to the UN agency, its field teams estimated that between Oct. 26 and 29, nearly 62,263 people fled El-Fasher and nearby villages as clashes intensified.
On Oct. 29 alone, over 26,000 fled the city, with most escaping to rural areas amid growing insecurity and fear of violence. In North Kordofan, the Sudan Doctors Network said around 4,500 people fled the city of Bara.
The network said civilians were moving rapidly toward El-Obeid city as attacks and looting spread, warning of severe shortages of food, water, and shelter for the displaced. Field reports indicated worsening humanitarian conditions, with many families stranded along roads under harsh weather and scarce aid.
Sudan has been torn by war between the General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, a conflict that has killed thousands and displaced millions.
