General Abdel Fattah al Burhan-led Port Sudan administration’s Justice Minister Abdullah Darf confirmed Sunday that the country will not allow a UN fact-finding mission into El Fasher, North Darfur.
The UN Human Rights Council had requested the mission to investigate alleged abuses in the region.
Darf said the mission infringes on the country’s sovereignty and that national investigation mechanisms are sufficient to examine human rights violations independently.
He alleged that most residents of El Fasher have fled to Northern State, making any UN visit “ineffective” in assessing the situation.
