Djibouti’s President, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, reiterated the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD) dedication to fostering peace in Sudan during a meeting with Abdulla Hamdok, the leader of Sudanese Civil Forces Coordination “Taqqadum.”
Hamdok, accompanied by a group representing civilian forces, visited Djibouti to hold talks with Guelleh on the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
They emphasized the necessity of participating in regional endeavors to resolve the crisis and reinstate civilian governance.
Former PM Hamdok also briefed Guelleh on the Sudanese Civil Forces Coordination’s endeavors to achieve peace, referencing the Addis Ababa Declaration, a strategic plan to cease ongoing hostilities.
Currently, IGAD is endeavoring to arrange a direct meeting between Sudanese Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
IGAD’s initiative involves including civilian forces in the dialogue between the two military entities. However, the Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council Malik Agar has rejected recognizing Taqqadum as independent from the RSF, considering it the group’s political arm.
Moreover, the Sudanese army insists that the IGAD initiative should extend from the Jeddah process, which prioritizes ending fighting between warring factions and swiftly withdrawing forces from cities and civilian sites.
