In the wake of decades marked by war, authoritarian rule, and societal disintegration, Sudan’s newly formed Tasees Alliance has outlined a bold set of principles aimed at laying the groundwork for a unified, peaceful, and just state.
Tasees, composed of diverse political, social, and civil society leaders, stresses the urgent need to build a social contract rooted in the Constitution, ensuring the protection of human rights and sustainable peace for all Sudanese citizens.
In its declaration, the Tasees coalition underscores the belief that the country’s foundations must be built on five guiding principles: freedom, justice, equality, peace, and coexistence.
These values are presented as the cornerstone of a new Sudan, one that has long been battered by internal strife and external pressures.
At the heart of the Tasees coalition’s mission is a commitment to uphold international humanitarian law, emphasizing the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
The humanitarian crisis in Sudan remains dire, exacerbated by the ongoing conflict and widespread displacement. The coalition acknowledges the deep suffering endured by millions of citizens, with families losing homes and livelihoods to years of instability. In response, the coalition calls for strengthened cooperation with national, regional, and international organizations to ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of aid.
Additionally, it pledges to secure border crossings, enabling the unimpeded flow of relief convoys to those in desperate need.
“Negotiation, not conflict, is the path forward,” reads the coalition’s statement. The group advocates for a negotiated settlement to the war, one that addresses the root causes of Sudan’s protracted crises and fosters national reconciliation.
Central to the coalition’s vision is the establishment of a ceasefire and the creation of mechanisms to monitor and enforce the cessation of hostilities.
Tasees insists that peace can only be achieved if the nation’s diverse efforts—both domestic and international—are harmonized and aligned towards a single goal: an end to violence and the restoration of stability.
In its pursuit of a just and lasting peace, the Tasees coalition envisions a Sudan where the rule of law prevails, where governmental institutions operate transparently and equitably, and where every Sudanese citizen is afforded the dignity and opportunities they deserve.
With its clear focus on justice, unity, and peace, Tasees hopes to shift the narrative of a nation that has long been fractured by war.
As the coalition prepares for the arduous task of rebuilding the country, the hope remains that these principles will lead to a prosperous and harmonious future for all Sudanese.
