Pro-Burhan movement launches media campaign to prolong war

The Kizan movement in Sudan, the network linked to former president Omar al-Bashir and the former ruling National Congress Party, has launched what sources describe as a coordinated media campaign aimed at prolonging the war and undermining ceasefire efforts.

According to sources familiar with an emergency Zoom meeting, senior figures in the movement gathered after the United States imposed new sanctions, fearing the measures could weaken unity within the military and encourage defections.

The sources said participants agreed to step up messaging that highlights claimed battlefield gains, boosts the morale of pro-Burhan militias and portrays supporters of peace talks as traitors working against Sudan’s sovereignty.

The reported campaign came as Lieutenant General Yasser al-Atta accused the United States of trying to divide Sudan, remarks that observers say reinforce efforts to rally public support against foreign pressure.

Sources added that the campaign is intended to divert attention from the impact of the US sanctions and Sudan’s deepening humanitarian crisis, while building support for the continuation of the war.
