The UAE has dismissed General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s government genocide-complicity case against it at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as a “publicity stunt.”
The UAE called the allegations, which claim the Gulf nation supports Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), baseless and politically motivated.
A UAE official denounced the filing, saying it was an attempt to divert attention from Burhan-led army’s involvement in ongoing atrocities.
“The recent application… is nothing more than a cynical publicity stunt,” the statement said.
It also described Burhan-controlled government’s claims as lacking legal or factual basis.
The submission further alleges that the UAE directly supports the RSF, fueling the violence.
The UAE, however, has consistently denied backing the RSF.
Instead, it highlights its humanitarian efforts in Sudan amidst the brutal two-year conflict.
The war, between Burhan’s army and the RSF, has killed tens of thousands and displaced more than 12 million people.
As the situation intensifies, the UAE plans to seek the dismissal of the case, reinforcing its stance against what it sees as an unfounded claim aimed at shifting the narrative.
The ICJ now faces the task of reviewing the dispute as tensions between Burhan-controlled government and the UAE continue to escalate.
